Prius Intelli provided a North Texas rancher with aerial data intelligence to guide the placement and construction of a lake to gather rainwater runoff, providing a new water source for livestock. RGB imagery was gathered over 1,000+ acres, which was then processed into:
- Orthoimagery to provide a geospatially accurate base map to allow for precise measurements and calculations.
- A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) to deliver a baseline understanding of the property’s terrain, including elevation changes and associated surface runoff patterns.
- Drainage basin analysis to better understand the total size and geometry of the entrapment. This helped to both quantify the possible drainage area and determine the optimal location to build the lake.
- Stream networks were used to understand where water would preferentially flow across the property.
“Being able to analyze drainage basins, stream networks, and runoff patterns was a key component of getting this project done – and Prius Intelli made it easy. We’re looking forward to seeing our vision of more self-sustained ranching come to life.” – Development Consultant
Volumetric calculations derived from Prius Intelli’s data show that the new 6-acre lake will hold 26 acre-feet of water.
“Once the capital investment decision was made to build this lake, we wanted to move quickly. Within three weeks, Prius Intelli had the property flown, the data processed, and the imagery delivered. We broke ground just a couple of weeks later.” – Development Consultant
